Had it with bleary vision from irritating contact lenses? Is the thought of sporting those classy glasses on your wedding day making you cry? Consider a permanent solution LASIK laser eye surgery, a procedure that reshapes the curve of your cornea. We asked Mark Speaker, M.D.,Ph.D, a New York City corneal and laser eye surgeon, for some facts to focus on.

• Laser eye surgery can permanently fix astigmatism, nearsightedness, and farsightedness (ask your doctor about the degree of correction you can anticipate).
• The operation takes only 20 minutes for both eyes. They're numbed with drops, so there's no pain or discomfort from the laser.
